Ao observarmos os livros didáticos que tratam sobre Língua e Literatura Brasileira, produzidos para aulas do Ensino Médio, percebemos que a presença de escritoras é mínima, normalmente, encontra-se reduzida aos trabalhos de autoras como Rachel de Queiroz, Cecília Meireles e Clarice Lispector. Apesar de mais de dez anos da promulgação da Lei no 10.639/2003 que trata da obrigatoriedade da temática História e Cultura Afro-Brasileira no currículo oficial das escola, quando procuramos por escritoras negras, há uma grande lacuna nos livros didáticos. Aqui faz-se importante perguntarmos: Que significados essa ausência pode representar? Mulheres negras não escrevem? O que pensam os estudantes ao abrirem um livro que apresenta os marcos da nossa literatura e nele encontrarem um número mínimo de mulheres, e, dentre elas, não haver mulheres negras? Várias pesquisadoras (XAVIER, 2005; SCHWANTES, 2006) têm observado que esse apagamento de autoras da História da Literatura Brasileira não deriva apenas das questões estéticas apresentadas em suas obras. Segundo elas, o silêncio em torno de varias escritoras reifica ideais de um mundo onde a prática intelectual é identificada como própria aos homens e pouco comum às mulheres. Com o objetivo de dar espaço, nas aulas de literatura, a autoras que ainda não frequentam os livros didáticos do Ensino Médio, este trabalho lançar luz sobre as obras de Maria Firmina dos Reis (1825-1917) e Carolina Maria de Jesus (1914-1977). Para pensar sobre as especificidades dos trabalhos destas escritoras faz-se necessário observar os recortes de Gênero, Raça e Classe Social. Ao observarmos o apagamento de suas obras, é preciso destacar que as duas escritoras estavam inseridas nos extratos mais pobres da sociedade brasileira; eram mulheres negras em uma sociedade onde a escravidão era legalmente permitida (no caso de Maria Firmina) e o racismo servia como base para uma distinção que estabeleceu, socialmente, uma assimetria entre sujeitos brancos e negros (para as duas escritora). Ao analisarmos as obras de Maria Firmina (Úrsula, 1959; A Escrava, 1887) e Carolina de Jesus (Quarto de despejo, 1960), percebemos a presença de um discurso de denúncia e crítica às condições de vida de homens e mulheres negros que não apresentam mudanças significativas apesar dos cem anos que separam as publicações das autoras. Além do resgate dos textos escritos por estas mulheres e da necessidade de pensarmos sobre as possíveis razões associadas ao quase “esquecimento” de suas obras, destacamos a necessidade de utilizá-los em sala de aula, para fomentarmos questionamentos sobre problemas sociais que marcam as experiências de vida em nossa sociedade e ultrapassaram os limites da São Luís escravocrata do século XIX e da metrópole paulista de 1950, como o subemprego, a pobreza e, sobretudo, a violência contra as mulheres.
