Trataremos do escritor Aquilino Ribeiro (1885-1963), com foco especial em O Malhadinhas (1922), exemplo literário no qual se evidencia a gesta bárbara e forte de um Portugal que, no alvorecer do Modernismo lusitano, já não se manifestava mais tão fortemente. E como se verá também, deflagra-se na referida obra uma valorização incomum da Língua Portuguesa, isso a partir de um processo de resgate/manutenção vocabular da Beira Alta, item apropriado aos temas que o autor desenvolveu fazendo uso de regionalismos, arcaísmos e gírias locais. O resgate do falar dessa região, aplicado em seus romances, convida-nos a caminhar na direção de um abismo de formas, sons, temperaturas e dialetos; em decorrência, inexplicavelmente o leitor se veria imerso em uma identificação com tal temática, algo que o auxiliaria na superação da dificuldade do primeiro contato com o rústico linguajar mencionado. Como dois dos resultados dessa experiência leitora, acreditamos, inclusive, que os elementos aqui levantados evidenciarão, no estrato literário/social das recriações aquilinianas, uma possível apreciação crítica do gênero épico, bem como a relativa desconstrução da figura do pícaro nesta sua novela. Para tanto, destacaremos como fontes teóricas David Mourão-Ferreira, António José Saraiva, Óscar Lopes, Eduardo Lourenço, João Palma-Ferreira, José Enrique Ruiz-Domènec e Mário Gonzáles.
