Esta comunicação propõe uma leitura warburguiana de textos poéticos. O desafio de empregar elementos da pragmática desenvolvida por Warburg à abordagem de textos literários se respalda na afinidade entre os objetos estudados pelo historiador da arte alemão e materiais literários unidos por hipervínculos – mito, teatro, pintura, música, filosofia – em articulações interartísticas, intermidiais e transculturais. Por outro lado, a complexificação do ato de leitura e de análise que perseguimos ganhou certo élan com a audácia warburguiana. Graças a correlações de alguma forma inusitadas, é possível abordar comparativamente não apenas objetos estéticos, mas também os valiosos mecanismos críticos que Warburg herdou de pensadores notáveis de sua geração e legou a seus seguidores declarados ou não. Foi assim que, em 1918, Aby Warburg identificou numa borboleta uma nova figuração da ninfa de Botticelli. Para fundamentar suas excêntricas aproximações entre ritos de povos remotos e imagens altamente elaboradas da arte renascentista, dados etnográficos e procedimentos estéticos, pensamento científico e xamanismo, Warburg desenvolveu um curioso repertório de conceitos hoje considerados imprescindíveis para a abordagem estética das imagens, tais como “sobrevivência do antigo” (Nachleben der Antike), “itinerários de memória”, “iconologia do intervalo” (Ikonologie des Zwischenraums), “fórmula patética” (Pathosformel), “memória inconsciente” (unbewusste Gedächtnis) e outros, todos eles, conectores de sentidos através do quais sistemas culturais distantes e códigos artísticos se comunicam. Tomaremos como demonstrativo do emprego eficaz de termos e critérios de análise warburguianos, na abordagem literária, a narrativa muda que explode numa tela de Max Ernst, exposta entre quatro outras, em 1958, em Paris. Os cinco títulos integram o texto em prosa Poème d’Alice, do próprio pintor. A exposição e o catálogo que lhe corresponde se intitulam Cinq poèmes. Percebe-se de imediato que, em Ernst, a usual implicação texto-imagem se inverte: é a imagem que gera os títulos das telas, e estes, o poema, que por sua vez leva à fonte inaparente da criação: Alice no país das maravilhas de Lewis Carroll. Não nos propormos a levantar empréstimos, apropriações ou quaisquer outros processos de análise ponto a ponto, mas sim evidenciar as ressonâncias de Carroll na obra de Ernst, em geral, e na tela – que é o verso central do poema e da exposição –, em especial. A "contaminatio" se espalha, iconologicamente, pelos interstícios de ambos os universos criativos. O sonho, os espaços aleatórios, o transbordamento de limites convencionais, o desejo e o medo são elementos que transitam entre o ficcionista e o pintor. Processo semelhante se verifica num poema de Oswald de Andrade, com o qual se encerrará esta comunicação.
